Is Invoicing Shop Supply Legal or Not
Billing of shop materials in Quebec is regulated for the automotive industry.
Although GEM-CAR allows shop material billing based on a percentage of labor to accommodate Western Canadian provinces, this practice is not legal in Quebec and Ontario for consumers. As a result, we invite you to comply with the laws and regulations in force at your place of business.
This section has been published on the recommendation of the GEM-CAR development team to inform you of good business practices. To ensure more accurate invoicing of your workshop equipment, we recommend that you use your GEM-CAR to print barcode labels for workshop equipment products, and that you use a barcode scanner.
In short, workshop material can be charged to the customer if it is detailed (product code, item, price) on the invoice, except for commercial customers who can be charged a % of labour.
