GEM-CAR FAQ
Measuring Technician Performance
To measure technician performance, follow the steps below:
- Configure work bays to associate with technicians.
- If technicians are not using the Punch Clock, assign jobs to technicians and enter the required and actual times in the Point of Sale.
- Generate a Performance Report by bay / technician.
With these reports at hand, you have all the information you need to assess technician performance. Please note that the data GEM-CAR uses to generate statistics is available 24 hours after the end of the day. This should be taken into account when generating reports, to ensure that the statistics are as accurate as possible. Statistics will also be much more accurate if you use the Time-Stamp module.
Interpreting Technician Performance Reports
Once you've generated your technician performance reports, you're now ready to interpret them by considering the definitions of units of measurement and ratios detailed below.
Units of Measurement for Technician Performance Reports
- Actual Time: The time technicians spend on revenue-generating jobs. It includes returns and company vehicles if they are punched on work orders.
- Cost Time: The time technicians spend on jobs that do not generate revenue. It includes returns and company vehicles if they are punched as internal work.
- Planned Time: The total time spent by technicians on a given day's work. It is equal to actual time plus cost time.
- Sold Time: The time technicians spend on jobs for which customers are billed.
Technician Performance Report Measurement Ratios
- Productivity: This ratio measures revenue-generating jobs in relation to total time worked. It is equal to actual time divided by planned time, and measures the amount of revenue-generating work.
- Efficiency: This ratio measures time sold to customers in relation to revenue-generating work. It equals sold time divided by actual time, and measures the amount of revenue-generating work sold. It is an indicator of work speed.
- Skill: This ratio measures the time sold to customers in relation to the total time worked. It is equal to time sold divided by time available, and measures the amount of work performed by technicians that has been sold.
